چکیده

Results Our study showed that healthy controls had a Tregs frequency of 4.1%. When Tregs frequency analyzed among HIV/AIDS patients who are yet to receive HAART we found a significant reduction in Tregs population i.e. 1.2%. Encouragingly this deep plunge in Tregs population was found to be restored and surged upon HAART up to 12.6%. However, these changes in percentages did not alter based on their gender or age or absolute CD4 count of the study population.

Altered Suppressor Function of Regulatory T Cells in Type 1 Diabetes

Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a T cell mediated autoimmune disease targeting the insulin-producing β cells within pancreatic islets. Autoimmune diseases may develop as a consequence of altered balance between regulatory (Tregs) and autoreactive T cells. Objectives: To evaluate Treg cells frequency and suppressive function in the peripheral blood of newly diagnosed T1D patients in compari...

Poor Immune Reconstitution in HIV-Infected Patients Associates with High Percentage of Regulatory CD4+ T Cells

CD4(+) regulatory T cells (Tregs) are essential for the maintenance of the immune system's equilibrium, by dampening the activation of potential auto-reactive T cells and avoiding excessive immune activation. To correctly perform their function, Tregs must be maintained at the right proportion with respect to effector T cells. Since this equilibrium is frequently disrupted in individuals infect...

Frequency of Circulating Regulatory T Cells Increases during Chronic HIV Infection and Is Largely Controlled by Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) act by suppressing the activation and effector functions of innate and adaptive immune responses. HIV infection impacts Treg proportion and phenotype, although discrepant results have been reported depending on the patient population and the way Tregs were characterized. The effects of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) on Treg frequency have not been thorou...

Resting Regulatory CD4 T Cells: A Site of HIV Persistence in Patients on Long-Term Effective Antiretroviral Therapy

BACKGROUND In HIV-infected patients on long-term HAART, virus persistence in resting long-lived CD4 T cells is a major barrier to curing the infection. Cell quiescence, by favouring HIV latency, reduces the risk of recognition and cell destruction by cytotoxic lymphocytes. Several cell-activation-based approaches have been proposed to disrupt cell quiescence and then virus latency, but these ap...

Relationship of frequency of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells with disease progression in antiretroviral-naive HIV-1 infected Chinese.

Forty-five antiretroviral-naive HIV-1 infected patients and 14 healthy controls in North China were enrolled in this study. The frequency of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) and levels of expression of CD95, HLA-DR and CD38 in T cells were detected by flow cytometry. We found that the frequency of Tregs was higher in AIDS patients than in asymptomatic HIV-1 infected patients (P=0.004)...
